Cheapest Months to Fly from Canada & USA to India (2026 NRI Guide)

When to book Toronto–Mumbai, New York–Delhi and other India routes for the lowest fares — booking windows, seasons and the mistakes that cost NRIs the most.

✈️

Flights from North America to India swing by 40–60% across the year, and most NRI families overpay simply by booking at the wrong time. Here is the honest calendar our IATA flights desk works from.

When is it cheapest to fly from Canada or the USA to India?

February to early May, and again mid-August to late September, are consistently the cheapest windows. Return economy fares from Toronto or New York to Mumbai and Delhi typically start around ₹70,000–₹85,000 in these months, versus ₹1.2 lakh or more in peak December.

How far in advance should you book?

For North America–India routes, 6–10 weeks ahead is the sweet spot for regular season, but December–January (peak NRI season) and summer school holidays sell out 4–6 months early. If you must travel over Christmas or Diwali, book by August–September.

Non-stop or one-stop?

Non-stops from Toronto, New York and San Francisco to Delhi or Mumbai save 4–6 hours but usually cost 15–30% more. One-stop routings via the Gulf or Europe are often the best value — and a well-timed connection adds surprisingly little total travel time.

The mistakes that cost the most

Booking one-way fares separately, ignoring baggage rules (India-bound fares often include 2×23kg — but not always), and buying "cheap" basic-economy fares that charge heavily for date changes. A ₹5,000 saving can turn into a ₹25,000 change fee.
